Those were two very similar matches but only up to a certain point. They started in a similar way but only one finished in accordance with the wishes of the crowd.

Magdalena Fręch and Katarzyna Kawa won the first set Russia’s Alona Fomina and Croatia’s Tereza Mrdeza and were up 2:0 in the second but eventually lost 6:3, 5:7, 7-10 and didn’t move into the second round.

Kateryna Bondarenko and Katarzyna Piter already won one match yesterday and today they were the first pairing to advance into the semifinals. They took the first set of their meeting against USA’s Jamie Loeb and Eden Silva of Great Britain very easily; however, in the second, each time they got a break, they lost it. From 5:5 the Ukrainian and Pole played very well though and Piter – the only Polish tennis player left in the doubles draw – sealed the win with an ace.
