It was a day of plot twists and tough matches, but also disappointments. The eliminations for BNP Paribas Warsaw Open concluded on Monday, begun were the singles and doubles events.

In the first match on the central court, before a great audience, Maja Chwalińska faced off against Laura Siegemund. After a duel full of break points, the Pole succumbed to the more experienced rival 4:6, 1:6.

The new surface in Warsaw feels very free, especially after returning from the fast grass courts of Wimbledon. This however is normal and I hope, that during the match the balls will only get faster. I’m very glad, that so many people decided to spectate the first round games – said Lara Siegemund.

On the Legia Tenis & Golf were met… Slovakian players. Kristina Kucova and Viktoria Hruncakova they played against each other for the first time in their careers. The higher seeded Hruncakova won 7:5, 6:3, serving at least 16 aces!

This was my strategy, I was trying to play a hard and accurate first serve, but unfortunately it did not seem to work. It’s indeed odd, that for so many years we did not play against each other and I must admit, that playing my countrywoman unleashed additional excitement – said Viktoria Hruncakova.

Both will play on Tuesday matches of the 1. round on the central court. In the game we will witness i.a. Shuai Zhang, Karolina Muchova, Linda Fruhvirtova, Linda Noskova, Katerina Siniakova and Heather Watson.
