The WTA has confirmed Iga Świątek’s final rival at Roland-Garros 2023 to participate in the BNP Paribas Warsaw Open as a wild card.

Currently, at number 16 in the WTA ranking, she is eager to score as many points as possible in Warsaw after an unexpectedly quick dropping out of the Wimbledon Championships, where she previously reached the quarterfinals twice. On the hardcourts, which Legia Tenis&Golf prepared this year, she is doing great – two years ago, she got to the semi-finals at the Australian Open.

Polish fans certainly remember Muchová from this year’s Roland-Garros final, in which she was the rival of Iga Świątek. Iga needed three sets to defeat the 26-year-old Czech player (6:2, 5:7, 6:4). It is worth mentioning that on her way to the final match in Paris, Muchová also needed three sets to defeat Aryna Sabalenka and the tournament’s “No. 8” from Greece – Maria Sakkari.

I am glad that Karolína Muchová received a wild card from the WTA. It means that the BNP Paribas Warsaw Open may host a rematch for this year’s Roland-Garros final. I wish that, above all, to the fans. Polish tennis fans deserve to watch the best players.” – Mariusz Fyrstenberg, the director of the BNP Paribas Warsaw Open tournament, said.

Karolína Muchová has never been so highly ranked in the WTA ranking. She owes her career-high 16th place not only to a great game in Paris but also in Dubai and Indian Wells, where she reached the quarterfinals in WTA1000 tournaments, defeating tennis players like Wiktoria Azarenka, Martina Trevisan and Belinda Bencic.

BNP Paribas Warsaw Open will take place between 24th and 30th July 2023 on the Legia Tenis & Golf courts at 4a Myśliwiecka Street in Warsaw.
